A step-by-step checklist for buying a used supercar in Dubai, with every line marked as an official requirement or practitioner advice.
Before buying a supercar in Dubai, check the seller's trade licence, then clear fines and any bank mortgage, which the RTA lists as transfer requirements. Match the VIN to the registration and book an independent specialist inspection. Official checks prove paperwork, not mechanical condition.
Check the seller before the car, and the paperwork before the mechanics. This order stops you paying a specialist to inspect a car you cannot legally buy.

Lines marked Official come from a government page linked beside them. Lines marked Advice are practitioner suggestions. They are good practice, but they are not a legal requirement and no regulator publishes them. We left out any figure we could not trace to an official source, including inspection prices, paint-thickness readings and repair costs. Ask for written quotes instead.
Official: the u.ae page Verify business licences points Dubai buyers to the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) search for licence information and to Invest in Dubai's business name check. The federal National Economic Register also lets users enquire about licences and activities.
Advice: note the licence number on the quotation or invoice and compare it with the registry entry. If the dealer works from a free zone, ask which authority issued the licence and check with that authority. Confirm the licensed activity covers selling cars.
Official: the RTA's ownership change page lists these requirements:
Buyer and seller, or their legal representatives, attend in person at an RTA centre, according to the buyer's page. The sale agreement is valid for 14 days and all licensing transactions must be completed within that window to avoid penalties. Ownership transfers after the seller submits the plates. Check current fees on those RTA pages.
Official: the buyer pays all traffic fines, including those from other emirates, and any vehicle mortgage is released online before the transfer (RTA). You can look up fines on the RTA's Pay Vehicle Fines page using a fine number, plate details, licence number or traffic file number.
Advice: the RTA calls it an electronic mortgage release. In trade wording it is a bank NOC or liability letter. Ask the seller for written confirmation from the bank that the loan is settled, and see the release recorded before you pay the balance.
Advice: we did not find an official Dubai accident-history lookup, and the history services sellers mention vary in coverage, so treat any report as one input and not a clearance. Ask for full service records from the brand's dealer, and have a specialist look for signs of repair.
Official, imports only: MoIAT's product label card confirms an imported used vehicle is free from a list of damages that could affect its safety. It applies to imported used vehicles, not to a car already sold locally.
The RTA inspection and a specialist inspection answer different questions. Official: the RTA's vehicle inspection service requires an online appointment and checks roadworthiness, and it issues a Vehicle Technical Inspection Certificate valid for 30 days. A transfer needs an electronic technical inspection, so it cannot be skipped. Advice: a roadworthiness check is not a condition report on a supercar, and it will not tell you about repainted panels, gearbox wear or brake life. Hire a specialist for that make, chosen by you and not by the seller. Agree in advance what the report covers, who receives it, and whether the car will be inspected on a lift and driven. Ask for the findings in writing, with photos of any defects, so you can use them in price talks or as grounds to walk away.
Advice: ask the seller for the customs card and a written spec confirmation from the brand's dealer. If the customs card does not show Gulf compliance, the RTA expects a separate document, covered in our guide to GCC spec vs European spec cars.
Advice: drive the car after the paperwork checks, not before, so you only spend time on cars that pass. Ask in writing what the deposit covers and whether it is refundable if the specialist report fails. Use the specialist's written findings as the basis for any price discussion.
All of these are advice, not regulation. Any one of them is reason to pause.
Official: finish the transfer inside the 14-day agreement window (RTA). Advice: complete payment and transfer in one sitting at the RTA centre where possible, so money and ownership move together. Browse cars on Carzle, see how Carzle works, and read the dealers page. For general used-car checks, use the used car inspection checklist.
